WHAT HE HAD TO SAY...

After the heated riots that had temporarily crippled any efforts of education in Moi University Main Campus following the rape and murder of a third year student, finally Professor Richard Mibey was scheduled to address the enraged students on 24th of February.

Students were assembled at the Administration block from around 9.00 am.As some people say that nothing happens immediately in Africa, the Vice Chancellor Professor Richard Mibey arrived later. He was met by hostile faces and jeers of enraged students.Their behavior could be excused bearing in mind how painful it was to lose a comrade, classmate and above all a friend.

The Vice Chancellor proceeded on to assure students that all measures possible were being implemented to apprehend the perpetrators of the inhuman act.He further assured the students that very soon hostel I and M that were still incomplete would be complete and equipped to bring a number of students that reside at stage into the schools's main hostels that were safer.

The V.C also a midst noises from the still angry students promised that the looming electricity problem would be addressed. The students however were very enraged and the meeting had to end abruptly.

MEGA-DEMONSTRATION

After what students referred to as 'a rehearsal demo' on Sunday 22nd following the brutal murder of one of their colleagues, they finally called for a grand demonstration to protest against the same on Monday 23rd of February.

Students gathered around the student center as early as 8.00 am in the morning. They once again hit the streets of the campus wanting to have their issues addressed for once and for all.Among other students' concerns looming behind the murder of their comrade includes power shortage in the famous Soweto Hostel.

The demonstration saw roars and chants of comrades power though it did not go on for very long.Even the police who had been dispatched in fear of things getting out of hand did not take long and left. All classes however had to be suspended for that day.Tension was all over the air and students could be seen gathered in groups all day discussing the tragic event.

Students were promised that the Vice Chancellor,Professor Richard Mibey would address them the following day.

COMRADE POWER

Sunday the 22nd,a day that all students in Moi University main campus will live to remember.A day a comrade or in simple terms a fellow student was found brutally murdered with signs of rape evident. The villain unknown, pained and angry comrades took to the streets and corridors of the university with chants of Comrades power to protest against this inhuman act.

What started as a peaceful demonstration turned into quite a violent riot.Students were very angry that a fellow student could be murdered in such cold blood whereas there were security officials supposed to be ensuring all comrades were safe. This is especially bearing in mind that it is the administration that forced students to seek accommodation in the furthest sides of stage instead of ensuring all students were safely housed within the main school's hostels.

Things got out of hand and police were dispatched promptly to try and quell the rioting students. The enraged students however were not even the least intimidated by warning shots fired to disperse them.Soon they caught up with a police land cruiser that attempted to carry off the body of the fallen comrade and lynched it to ash.The body was later ferried away by the school's ambulance.

The perpetrator of this evil act is still not known.

SUNDAY OF DOOM

Students in Moi University main campus,on Sunday 22nd of February awoke to a horrifying sight after they found the body of a third year female student dumped near the unpopular stage hostels.

The victim,Charity Maina was a third year student in the school of Arts majoring in English Literature.Signs of rape and struggle were very evident and in fact the victim was naked.

This inhuman act allegedly happened at around 9.00 pm Saturday night as the girl in question was walking to her room from the library. It is not clear yet as to who could have perpetrated such an inhuman act.Police came and attempted to take the body but enraged rioting students torched their land cruiser to ash.

The event has since then sparked a lot of riot and unrest in the school to an extent of disrupting classes.

SMILING FACES,WEEKEND IS HERE.

If you walk around the streets and corners of Moi University today especially from 4.00PM you will obsereve the change in demeanor of students.

Unlike other days such as Monday when the faces are all gloomy, smiles are now widely spread all over the faces of the students, all thanks to one thing, weekend is here!
This is good news to all students especially the lot who are in love with places like F2.Others have games and movies especially series movies to look forward to.

Come Monday, the exact opposite of this jovious mood will be observed.Well, who can blame them?

HOPE RISES AS ELECTRICITY CABLES ARE FIXED

Today students residing in the infamous Soweto hostels saw their faces lit up with hope after K.P.L.C fixed the long awaited cables connecting the new transformer to the newly constructed powerhouse.Speaking to students, one of the technicians fixing the cables assured the students watching curiously that indeed their problem was close to being put permanently behind their backs.

However, a number of self-proclaimed engineers were neither moved nor impressed by this and they expressed their fears that this was just another of the administration's trick to keep comrades in check. They feel that nothing in Moi happens immediately and we might have to wait for a month or more until the project is complete.I heard one complaining openly, "Wamezoea kutufunga macho, hii ni mpaka next month." (They are used to tricking us,this will wait up to next month)

Whatever happens next,we have to wait and see.
